“I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I can no longer accept”

Hello!

My name is Dr. Vanessa Freeman and I am a licensed psychologist with a passion for supporting the Black community and communities of color. I believe that therapy has the power to help individuals unlock, access, and/or reconnect to their authentic selves. It is through this connection to our authentic selves that we can live our lives to the fullest and support those around us. What does it mean to be our authentic selves? It means that we are able to identify our needs and wants and are able to communicate them to those around us. It also means being able to approach ourselves with self-compassion to achieve our goals in life.

I know that talking about mental health within the Black community can be challenging. Our communities face unique issues that require a therapist to be understanding, empathetic, and open. I believe I offer a space for Black clients to explore navigating life transitions, stress, and honoring their needs. I see myself as a person who is knowledgeable in psychology and counseling, and you as the expert in your experience. Together, we work to understand what you want to change, address, and/or improve.

I am originally from New Jersey and have lived in several states up and down the east coast. I got my doctorate from Florida State University and attended University of Delaware for my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching true crime shows, learning about the universe, and sitting quietly with a hot cup of tea. I am also very passionate about the fight for racial and social justice and finding ways to create more inclusive environments for Black folks, communities of color, and other marginalized groups.
